Australia
In 2020 I went on a study exchange to Australia for 7 months, which was a massive jump for me as I had never remotely done anything like it. Back then, it was the first time I went away from home for that long. The first time I embarked on a completely solo adventure. Despite covid hitting only a short while after arriving, in the end it was the best decision I ever made.
In the weekends and after classes, I went hiking, learned how to rockclimb and kind of learned how to surf. I grew as a person and discovered that life could be so much more than I ever dared dream. I fell in love with Down Under and its wonderful inhabitants. To say that my stay there was transformative is an understatement. Without Australia, there would have been no Pacific Crest Trail (or other big, ridiculous adventures).
My idea about Australia, prior to going there, was that it was just dry, sandy outback as far as the eye can see. However, that notion was quickly dispelled. This far-away country contains a massive amount of biodiversity. I saw groups of giant turtles slowly striding through the water amidst the coral of the Great Barrier Reef, searched for koala’s on Magnetic Island, witnessed the deep-red sunrise over Uluru and much much more.
This page will contain all posts on a country that will always hold a special place in my heart.
