A day of both elation and sadness. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw McLovin and Busy Bee sitting at the water source, after I was so sure they were way behind. McLovin had hiked the Hikertown – Tehachapi section in one go, 49 miles over the course of 17 hours. I’m glad he did, so freaking glad. I’ll definitely see them again in Kennedy Meadows.

Jive Turkey was also at the water source, with less good news: Machine had left the trail in order to take care of some personal business. He would only be back in 2 weeks. Machine was like the wise, silent leader of our bubble, always commenting on water sources in FarOut, his long beard giving him a sage look. I’ll be far from the only one who will feel his absence.
I hiked more with Jesse, Mona, Marjolein and Lotte, which was nice. Our days in the desert grow short, but there are a few more long water carries we have to get through
