Mt Hood in the morning

Day 118: Tunnel Falls

Only one highlight today: Tunnel Falls, a waterfall with a hewn out tunnel behind it that the trail goes through. As a FarOut comment aptly put it: this is the stuff people think thru hikers see every day.

The trail followed Eagle Creek, the river into which Tunnel Falls flowed and the humidity in this stretch brought back unpleasant memories from NorCal. To cool down, Half and Half, Lavalamp and I took a dip in the creek. Didn’t see the others today, they must be a bit behind.

Lots of burned areas here. Apparently, Columbia River Gorge fell victim to wildfires a couple years ago and it showed. Camping was really limited and in the end the three of us were forced to cram into a tiny rocky area overlooking the creek. Half and Half and me cowboy camped while Lavalamp pitched his tent. Of course, this was one of the handful of nights where it started raining. Scrambling, Half and Half set up her tent in our cowboy camp spot while I found shelter in Lavalamp’s tent.

This was our second to last day on trail in Oregon, tomorrow we wrap this state up and head into Portland.
